On Sunday, I'm going on a 7-day cruise to Alaska with my daughter Anne and her partner El. Until about 15 minutes ago, I had not planned on blogging it. I mean, come on, it's only a week long and everyone at every one of the three or four ports speaks clear, American-accented English (well, OK, maybe not Victoria, but I like their accent better anyway), so it hardly seems worth the effort.

Until I thought of what a pleasure it is to write about things I'm doing.

And how nice it would be to have a place to write when I have something to write about.

Hence Interesting Times. I can post pointers on Facebook when there's anything new here to read, and I think you can subscribe if you want to get my stuff in your emailbox. It will start out with anything I feel like writing about on the Alaska trip, and from there it either will or won't expand.

A friend in Georgia asked me to be sure and take lots of pictures of the Alaska trip so I can share it with her. She doesn't realize that cameras and I are distant acquaintances at best. But me and keyboards -- BFFs, man! And with a title like "Interesting Times", I can put anything I want in here. Heck, I can even post the occasional photograph.

Now how do I let people know I'm doing this? Facebook? Google+? Not yet, I think. Not until it happens that I post a substantive entry, not just a "hello world" post like this one.
